Floats our boat
Let’s begin with the location! As the name implies, Barge East is located on a boat – namely a 125-year-old, Dutch barge – floating in the waters of Hackney Wick. It’s a beautiful symbol for the restaurant’s holistic approach to recycling and sustainability. A lot of the produce comes from on-site gardens, whereas meat, fish and beer are locally sourced and transported by bike or electric vans. The kitchen, supervised by Gavin Gordon, is run in a collaborative way – another factor contributing to making this a truly unique experience.
