Äppelgården Café & Musteri
Äppelgården is a café that doesn’t want to compromise. Here, ingredients are chosen from their own farms — or from other growers in the area and food producers, who take responsibility and fully manage their sustainability. They use organic bakery flour from Berte Qvarn, which is made from grains harvested from the local fields. The meat comes from the local farms and hunters, allowing for traceability of where the animals originate, what they have eaten, and what environments they’ve lived in. Fruit and vegetables served at Äppelgården are either home-grown or from one of the local producers who share their philosophy.
Who are some of the producers and suppliers you work with that share your values?
Slättåkra Närproducerat, Skrea Ost, Slöinge Kafferosteri, Stedsans farm & restaurant, and Dränggård.
How do you minimize food waste?
We plan our purchases and serve what’s in season. The small waste we have leftover is composted and goes back to the farm.
How do you avoid injustice, bullying, sexism, and other intolerable behavior at your workplace? Is there a policy for this?
We focus on providing safe working conditions for our staff and spend a lot of time giving them personal tools for both work and life. Here, you’ll find, for example, yoga and courses in personal development and holistic health. We’re open and transparent, following up with group meetings and personal conversations to ensure that everyone is satisfied with their work environment and time at Äppelgården.
